Arizona’s Reps. Yassamin Ansari and Adelita Grijalva are some of 126 Democratic lawmakers are asking the Trump administration not to move forward with a rule change that would block more immigrants from entering the U.S.

The proposed rule, posted in November, would undo a Biden-era policy and reinterpret public charge rules, or those that dictate whether someone is eligible to change their immigration status or enter the U.S.

The new policy would take into consideration a person’s past use of public benefits, and possible future use, and experts say it's also not clear whether a family member's use of benefits would play a role.

In a letter to administration officials, the lawmakers say the proposal will cause mass uncertainty among immigrants, and could harm Americans who are part of mixed immigration status families.
