The City of Globe’s mayor is urging the federal government to reconsider its denial of disaster funds.

At the end of September, devastating floods hit Globe and other communities in Gila and Mohave Counties, causing an estimated $30 million worth of damage and killing four people.

FEMA notified Arizona in December that it was denying a request for disaster relief, drawing criticism from Globe Mayor Al Gameros.

“Their reasoning was that the state and local resources were satisfactory for funding, which I don’t agree with,” Gameros said.

The federal Small Business Administration is allocating more than $5 million in disaster loans.
