Thursday marks 15 years since former Democratic Congresswoman Gabby Giffords was shot and critically wounded at a supermarket outside Tucson.

Giffords was meeting with constituents at a grocery store just north of Tucson when a gunman carrying a 9 mm killed six people and injured 13.

On Thursday, she posted a video on social media reflecting on that day, as well as the progress made in that time to reduce gun violence.

The video includes photos of the victims from that day including 9-year-old Christina-Taylor Green who would have turned 24 last September.

In 2023, survivors of that mass shooting told KJZZ they continue to suffer from physical and psychological pain.

The gunman was sentenced in 2012 to seven consecutive life sentences plus 140 years.

More than 300 Americans are shot every single day. That’s according to the national organization, Everytown for Gun Safety. Many survive their initial injury. But the physical and emotional trauma does not end when they’re discharged from the hospital.
