Members of Arizona’s growing Iranian-American diaspora are expressing alarm over reports that thousands of people have been killed in Iran protesting against the government.
Saman Golestan is a local attorney and member of the Iranian American Society of Arizona.
"It’s shocking. There’s credible reports coming out, videos verified with the death toll of over 12,000 in two days. That’s four 9-11’s and probably more unfortunately because the reporting is always lagging behind because the regime has cut the internet," Golestan said.
President Donald Trump has said he would consider military intervention in Iran.
An estimated 30,000 Iranian-Americans call the Phoenix area home. One is Arizona Congresswoman Yassmin Ansari, who introduced bipartisan resolution in the House on Tuesday against the Iranian government’s brutality. It also calls for the immediate restoration of internet service in the country.
