Republicans in the state House and Senate have censured Democrat Attorney General Kris Mayes over comments surrounding Arizona’s stand your ground laws and ICE enforcement.
In an interview with 12 News after the death of Renee Good in Minneapolis, Mayes said masked ICE agents entering homes without warrants could lead to Arizonans believing their lives are threatened and responding with lethal force.
Republican Rep. Joseph Chaplik drafted the House resolution calling for Mayes’ resignation.
"She used the media to inflame tensions and to encourage hostility. Dangerous hostility towards law enforcement putting their lives even more at risk," Chaplik said.
Opposing Democrats said Republicans misconstrued the AG’s statements.
