Cindy McCain has announced plans to step down as head of the United Nations World Food Programme to focus on her health.

In a statement on Thursday, McCain says she will continue to be an advocate for the organization and for those in hunger crisis.

She resumed her executive director duties in January after suffering a mild stroke in October. But she has since told the board and her global teams that her health “has not recovered” enough to meet the job’s demands.

McCain has been in the position for almost three years. A successor has not been named.

The Trump administration had ended support for the program in April of last year, but made a partial reversal days later, resuming only some of the funding.
