Andy Biggs, Republican Arizona congressman and gubernatorial candidate, has a track record of supporting checks on a president’s ability to engage in war activities, but he said President Donald Trump’s actions in Iran are above board.

In 2019, Biggs cofounded a Congressional War Powers Caucus, dedicated to “restoring Congress’s constitutionally-mandated authority over matters of war and peace.”

As noted by Cronkite News, in 2024, Biggs accused President Joe Biden of violating the Constitution by ordering airstrikes in Yemen.

“Biden’s airstrikes in Yemen blatantly violate Article 1 of our Constitution. He can’t unilaterally pull us into another war. Why does he want so many wars?” Biggs posted on X.

He said something similar about the Biden administration’s actions in Iran later that year.

“The Biden administration and Warhawks cannot unilaterally authorize military action against Iran. The Constitution clearly grants Congress the sole power to declare war and authorize military action,” Biggs wrote.

On Friday, Biggs told KJZZ he believes Trump’s actions in Iran are legal.

“I've gone back and looked at the War Powers Act and I think that all the requirements of the War Powers Act were met, and I think Article 2 of the Constitution gives the president that authority,” Biggs said.

Biggs said he’s been told the United States is trying to resolve the Iranian conflict as quickly as possible.
