The Phoenix City Council is scheduled on Wednesday to consider whether to require federal immigration authorities to get permission to use city property.

Without preapproval, Immigration and Customs Enforcement would be banned from using city property as an operation base, to stage units and to process people arrested.

It is unclear if there are enough votes to pass the proposed ordinance, which comes after activists shut down a February council meeting to study plans for holding ICE accountable for lawlessness.

Last month, the Pima County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution that bars ICE from using county-owned property without a warrant signed by a judge.
