A progressive advocacy group is suing a pair of GOP state lawmakers over its members having been trespassed from Capitol buildings and threatened with arrest if they return.
Court records detail a number of times that Latino members of the group known as LUCHA were threatened with arrest for trespassing after having publicly opposed legislation. Yet white people who did the same were reportedly allowed in.
Now LUCHA is suing the chamber rule makers — Senate President Warren Petersen and House Speaker Steve Montenegro — to get back access.
The group wants a federal judge to declare the lawmakers violated constitutional rights to free expression, equal protection and due process, plus block Petersen and Montenegro from continuing to trespass dissenters.
