Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos lashes out May 8, 2023, at the federal government for failing to deliver on its responsibilities for dealing with the border and immigration. Nanos was speaking at a press conference organized by Gov. Katie Hobbs.

The Pima County Board of Supervisors have decided not to remove Sheriff Chris Nanos over allegations he committed perjury, as well as his handling of personnel matters and financial records.

On Tuesday, Pima County Supervisor Rex Scott said it was apparent Nanos has exhibited poor leadership.

"The most telling example of that was the unanimous vote of the Pima County Deputies organization declaring no confidence in his leadership."

Scott went onto say, "I move that we refer allegations of potential perjury by the sheriff to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and to direct the county administrator to do so on behalf of the board."

Nanos has also faced criticism over his handling of the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has said his department does not work with immigration enforcement. But some records the ACLU has already received show instances in which Pima sheriff’s deputies seem to be alerting them.
