Cindy McCain has officially stepped down as executive director of the World Food Program. McCain announced her plans to leave the role earlier this year, citing medical issues.
Over the weekend, she told CBS’s "Face the Nation" that she hopes a new person leads with their heart and takes risks.
“We push, at [WFP] we believe in pushing everything to the field. Our frontline workers, the people we serve, not keeping this at headquarters. It needs to go into the field," McCain said.
The Trump administration has nominated Luke Lindberg to lead the program next. He’s the current secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs.
