House Speaker Mike Johnson and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent are visiting Arizona this week to meet with business leaders alongside Rep. Juan Ciscomani, who is seeking re-election in one of the country’s few competitive Congressional districts.
Johnson, Bessent and Ciscomani will tour a manufacturing facility in Casa Grande on Wednesday and participate in a roundtable discussion with Arizona business leaders.
According to the Department of the Treasury, the trio will highlight the tax cut package passed by congressional Republicans and signed by President Donald Trump last summer.
The visit comes as Ciscomani faces Democrat Joanna Mendoza in Arizona’s 6th Congressional District, one of just 18 competitive districts across the country that could determine which party controls the U.S. House next year.
Mendoza and Democratic groups have knocked Ciscomani for supporting Trump’s tax cut package, pointing to reductions in Medicaid and food assistance spending used to offset the effects of the tax cuts on the federal budget.
Bessent is also scheduled to meet with Arizona bankers in a separate event on Thursday.
