Green Party congressional candidate David Redkey was arrested in Phoenix and faces claims he sent threatening messages involving guns targeting a judge and lawyer.
“We have the defendant making direct threats to the victims,” Stephen Garcia, a prosecutor with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, told a judge. “Sending emails, threatening emails. Talk about guns, a gun, which was never recovered, your honor. That’s a great concern for the state.”
Redkey told a judge he has no knowledge of the alleged victims in the case.
The Green Party says it actively opposed Redkey after he was kicked out of other political parties for alleged abusive behavior.
Redkey is running in Congressional District 3 against incumbent Democratic Rep. Yassamin Ansari.
“David Redkey registered Green and ran in our primary for CD3 after being expelled from the (Arizona Democratic Party) and Phoenix (Democratic Socialists of America) for being abusive. We also found him to be abusive and ‘actively opposed’ his candidacy. We encourage all Arizonans to not vote for him,” the Arizona Green Party posted on social media.
A judge set Redkey’s bail at $150,000.
The judge also limited Redkey’s internet usage, saying he could continue to use it to campaign but is barred from mentioning the victims.
