Court records say an Army veteran and ex-bodyguard at the center of a federal lawsuit against former Sen. Kyrsten Sinema is accused of trashing her Cave Creek home last month.
Sinema is being sued by Matthew Ammel’s ex-wife under North Carolina’s homewrecker law. Local court records identify Ammel as Sinema’s ex-boyfriend.
Weeks ago, Ammel allegedly entered Sinema’s home, demanded she post a video to social media and threatened to damage paintings if she didn’t do so.
Responding deputies reportedly found about $123,000 worth of art in the swimming pool and works defaced with spray paint.
They also reportedly discovered and broken bottles of pricey alcohol and a shattered mirror. The total estimated cost of the damage is more than $200,000.
Authorities picked up Ammel from a mental health facility, but he’s no longer in jail. Records say he’s on house arrest with electronic monitoring.
