Through our Q&AZ reporting project, a listener asked: Why does SRP continue to advertise if Arizonans already know who they are?
SRP is one of the largest electrical and water companies in Arizona, with more than 2 million customers. While they don't have to advertise to gain customers, Anne Rickard, SRP director of community partnerships, says it’s important to promote ways SRP customers can save on their water and energy bills.
She said ads still spread the message.
"The best way to get in front of a large audience is through a paid advertising mechanism," Rickard said.
She says customers already pay among the lowest rates in the Southwest, and removing advertisement spending wouldn’t significantly lower those rates.
Rickard says SRP is a non-profit and advertising also helps promote that aspect of the utility.
