Through our Q&AZ reporting project, we received the question: Whatever happened to the hydrogen truck manufacturer Nikola Corporation?

A spokesperson for the company that bought the truck maker’s intellectual property says Nikola as a business is no more.

The Texas-based company Hyroad Energy spent just under $4 million to buy 113 trucks along with the IP in August during Nikola’s ongoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings

Hyroad has no plans to build trucks for the foreseeable future, but says it will support Nikola trucks that are on the road.

Nikola motors has faced controversy for years. Its founder was convicted of fraud in 2022, but pardoned last year by President Donald Trump.

Nikola’s Coolidge plant is now owned by Lucid Motors, and many former employees have moved to Hyroad. The lone name representing Nikola is Thomas Pitta, a New York-based attorney serving as liquidating trustee for remaining debts and assets.
