You may see smoke in southwest Phoenix on Tuesday. The city of Phoenix and Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management will be conducting a prescribed burn at the Tres Rios Wetlands from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“The prescribed burn is part of ongoing efforts to improve the health of the ecosystem and reduce hazardous fuels,” a press release from the city said. “Fire helps eliminate invasive plant species and provide nutrients to the soil, making it an essential management tool for the wetlands.”
The prescribed burn will also serve as wildfire training for Phoenix firefighters, the press release said.
Throughout the burn, 91st Avenue will be closed from the 91st Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant North Gate to Baseline Road. Traffic may be congested on Broadway Road.
