At least one Valley hospital says it's seeing an increase in respiratory viruses including flu and RSV.
Sami Hoshi is an infectious disease specialist with Abrazo Health. He says there has been a surge of certain respiratory viruses compared to previous years.
Hoshi says Abrazo is well-equipped to care for patients.
“We are more concerned about the elderly people given their immunocompromised status or their immunity system. So we're a bit concerned that in the next couple of weeks we may see it more toward the elderly and even newborns or kids or children basically," he said.
Hoshi says these kinds of viruses are seasonal — so the uptick he’s observing could be the result of that.
Data from Maricopa County is showing a decrease in respiratory cases — Hoshi attributes that to a lag in collection.
