Valley residents will feel a brief cooldown this week. The National Weather Service predicts high temperatures in the high 80s to lower 90s in the early weekdays. It's temporary solace as the Arizona summer approaches.

Mark O’Malley is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

“Typically, the middle of May is when we start the heat season and by the end of May, our normal high temperatures are above 100 degrees, and then everybody knows June, July, August are the peak of the summer here," he said.

O’Malley says people going outside should not overexert themselves in hot conditions.
