With monsoon season starting this week, the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management is asking everyone to be more careful with fire, especially on red flag days.
Almost all the fires in Arizona this year have been human-caused. There have been 545 fires across state, federal and tribal land. Of those, 513 were human-caused.
Tiffany Davila is with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. She said it’s up to everyone to pay attention to weather warnings and be cautious.
“We need to take personal responsibility and you know have that self awareness when we’re working outdoors or when we’re recreating,” Davila said. “It takes all of us to prevent wildfires and we need to be mindful of the rules and restrictions that are in place.”
Davila said with monsoon season on its way, the state could see some lightning-caused wildfires.
