Anyone with plans for the outdoors this week may want to reconsider.
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Maricopa County through Thursday evening.
Mark O’Malley with the National Weather Service says a ridge of high pressure will push temperatures above 110 degrees for much of this week.
"We advise people, if you need to get outside, do your outdoor activities early in the morning and try to spend the afternoon in the air conditioning," O'Malley said.
O’Malley says temperatures will cool just slightly toward the end of the week, but he says there are no real chances of rain for the next several days.
NWS meteorologist Sean Benedict says to plan ahead.
“The heat’s obviously going to be worst during the daylight hours. So if you can, try to take advantage of the early morning and late evening time frame if you are gonna do some outdoor activities," he said.
Benedict also recommends staying hydrated and wearing lightweight clothing.
Transportation to free cooling centers and other resources are available in Maricopa County by calling 211.
