The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat watch for the Phoenix area Monday through Wednesday.
National Weather Service meteorologist Alicia Ryan said high temperatures are expected to be at or above 110 degrees starting Monday. And she said there’s no rain in the forecast for the week ahead.
“So unfortunately, no relief in that regard, just remaining high and dry,” Ryan said.
Phoenix only recently got a break from one of the longest extreme heat warnings ever in the city, which lasted 18 days, from July 23 to Aug. 9.
The National Weather Service warns extreme heat events pose major health risks to most people.
“Things that we like to message out are staying hydrated, limiting time outdoors, especially in direct sunlight, wearing lightweight and light-colored clothing, and just checking in on especially the elderly,” Ryan said.
People lacking access to air conditioning in Maricopa County can arrange free transportation to cooling centers or get connected with other heat relief services by calling 211.
Maricopa County has confirmed 63 heat-related deaths so far this year, which is more than double the number that had been confirmed at the same point last year. More than 500 possible heat-related deaths remain under investigation.
