Today, a lot of people are entering a more flexible, and potentially problematic, workforce: gig work. From Uber to DoorDash to TaskRabbit and all other kinds of jobs, app-based work has taken off over the past several years, and has brought both opportunities and concerns.

Alexandrea Ravenelle, an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, wrote a book titled, "Side Hustle Safety Net: How Vulnerable Workers Survive Precarious Times." Ravenelle joined The Show to talk about how she defines the gig economy.
