Late last year, the TV company TCL held a movie premiere at one of the most well-known venues in Los Angeles. And the short films shown that day all had one thing in common: They were generated by artificial intelligence.

Jason Koebler, co-founder of 404 Media, a journalist-owned tech website, was at the premiere, and says the films themselves were a bit odd. In one, a woman has a disease that turns her into a slug.

In another, a real actor goes into an audition and is then deepfaked into famous movie scenes.

But beyond the stories and plots, Koebler says it was what he saw on screen that stood out to him. Koebler joined The Show to talk more about it, starting with why Koebler wasn’t all that impressed with these short films visually.
