Last week, following a tumultuous chapter in the relationship between the Ukraine and the U.S., both countries announced their agreement to a framework for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia.
When the Trump administration presented those terms to Russia, however, Vladimir Putin rejected the deal, demanding that any agreement include a set of conditions related to Ukraine’s long-term status, including a guarantee that they would not be allowed to join NATO.
