Phoenix Public Library offers free arts and crafts summer programming for adults

It’s officially summer reading season — when a lot of book reading challenges are offered to kids. But the Phoenix Public Library, whose summer reading theme is “Color Our World,” has plenty of programming for adults, too.

There’s shrinky-dink making, a coloring club and a weaving lesson, all for folks who are 18 and older.

Here's a sample of some of the upcoming programming for adults in June:

Masterpiece Monday
June 2 at Yucca Library

A special summer edition of Yucca Library's adult painting program featuring artist Georges Seurat. Whether you are a master or you've never picked up a brush, you will leave with a masterpice all your own.

Science in Focus: The Cactus Conservation Crisis
June 8 at Burton Barr Central Library

Learn from speakers from the Desert Botanical Garden studying cactus conservation. Cactus are beloved across the globe for their amazing variety of shapes, sizes, prickly spines and beautiful colors. But did you know they are one of the most threatened groups of organisms on the planet?

Adult Coloring Club
June 14 at Acacia Library

The act of coloring can be a calming and meditative experience, helping to reduce stress and anxiety. We'll provide the materials and a space to get creative, unwind, and socialize. Take a break from the hustle and treat yourself to a relaxing hour of creativity.

The Modern Navajo Kitchen
June 21 at Harmon Library

Join Alana Yazzie, the author of "The Modern Navajo Kitchen," as she discusses her new cookbook and gives us a short history of Navajo culinary traditions which will provide the cultural context behind your new Navajo culinary experiences.
