In this panel discussion with three locals from the architecture/design/preservation/real estate world, we'll explore both residential and commercial buildings — old and new — and ask what makes them unique to our desert home.

About the panelists
Mike Hardesty is a realtor with azarchitecture/Jarson & Jarson Real Estate, where he specializes in architecturally significant homes and the stories behind them. He serves on the board of Preserve Phoenix, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting the city's historic and cultural landmarks, and is the creator of Discover Phoenix, a documentary-style storytelling project about the people and places that give Phoenix its character. Through real estate, preservation, and documentary-style storytelling, he invites people to see Phoenix differently, one story at a time.
Taz Khatri is the principal and founder of Taz Khatri Studios, an architecture firm that specializes in accessory dwelling units, missing middle housing and restaurants. She also hosts the Tea with Taz podcast which focuses on the built environment in Arizona from a lens of community-building, sustainability and historic preservation. She serves on the Arizona Historic Sites Review Committee and is chair of the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee at the AIA Phoenix Metro Chapter.
Darren Petrucci is an architect and professor in the Design School at Arizona State University where he served as school director from 2005-2012. He is the Suncor professor in the Design School, a senior sustainability scientist in the Global Institute of Sustainability, and an Affiliate Faculty in the School for The Future of Innovation in Society, and an Affiliate Faculty in the Biomimicry Center. He is the founder and principal of A-I-R [Architecture-Infrastructure-Research] Inc. He received both a master’s degree in architecture and a master’s degree of architecture and urban design with distinction from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
