Comanche and White Mountain Apache actor Jonathan Joss, 59, was shot and killed at his Texas property during an altercation on Sunday, June 1.

He’s arguably best known for his role as John Redcorn in the adult animated series “King of the Hill,” which is set for a reboot this summer. Joss also appeared on the television sitcom “Parks and Recreation,” portraying Chief Ken Hotate from a fictional tribe called Wamapoke.

Despite being born and raised in San Antonio, Joss had ancestral ties to the Comanche from Oklahoma and White Mountain Apaches of Arizona. A suspect — named Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez — has been arrested and charged with murder but police have not confirmed a motive since the investigation is ongoing.

His surviving husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, alleges the couple faced repeated harassment and homophobic threats from neighbors — even calling the fatal weekend incident a hate crime.

In a Monday social media post, the San Antonio Police Department has “found no evidence to indicate that the Mr. Joss’s murder was related to his sexual orientation,” adding “should any new evidence come to light, the suspect will be charged accordingly.”
